Walking towards the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, we found by chance the Bar Benteveo. Actually was it was a traditional bar who had been there for ages, was suddenly filled up with a much younger crowd and the owners were also new.
We had a fabulous breakfast of Café con Barrita con Tomate and read the newspaper, and felt extremelly happy about this change since we love the traditional bars of Madrid. During a good 5 years a growing trend of getting a place like this and changing completely the decoration for a lot of plastic was becoming unbereable. But the Benteveo and its new owners have taken the traditional direction and filled it up with a younger energy, respecting what was already there, – the marvelous woody walls,the metal bar, the stairs, all very 50´s- but just giving it a little updated look. Is the place to stop by after a film at la Filmoteca- right in the corner- or for any café con leche con croissant a la plancha. They also have sanwiches, hamburguers and aperitivos. And it has become an instant hit in the Area.
